CrowdStorm - Social Shopping 2.0
This is for everyone that has ever been bored at work on a Friday after a long week. You just got paid and damn it if you don’t deserve something nice, now if only you could find something to buy. You wouldn’t think this is a problem, so I will provide a reference that depicts this exact situation. Remember Edward Norton in Fight Club before he gets all crazy? He has the IKEA house, cuff links, etc… That’s the kind of bored I’m talking about. Really freaking bored.
So…
Instead of going all Fight Club on people I introduce CrowdStorm. It’s a social shopping network where people recommened products and everyone votes on them. If there is enough votes for a product it generates a “buzz” and gets promoted to the front page or is highlighted in the buzz section. I have a user account and though the data is not refreshed every minute on the minute ala Digg, you can count on a 5 products or so being added every hour on the hour. Perfect for that Friday payday. So if you’re looking for a place to mix surfing with shopping CrowdStorm is place to start.

[…] Slister is a new social bookmarking website that is based on shopping. Following in del.icio.us’s model you can add a little “post to Slister” token in your browser bookmark bar and it will post to the Slister website. It’s based around Shopping and posting products and shopping deals instead of just websites that you like. If they are looking to compete with Crowdstorm so far it looks like they are getting very very slow traffic. The two recent posts that I saw, when browsing their homepage were 3 hours apart from each other. My initial feeling on Slister is that it’s a similar to digg in it’s feel, uses del.icio.us aspects, and goes after Crowdstrom’s market. Yet, it does all these things poorly. It’s not easy to use or as current as digg, the bookmarking feature is just like del.icio.us, and Crowdstorm seems to understand their users better in the way they display the products and what products make it to the front page. That said, I pull for every new Web 2.0 startup though I’m not sure there is a need for another shopping 2.0 type. So I wish them good luck, and I hope Slister proves me wrong.
